Some readers may remember our report on the Sakishima Children EXPO 2025, where we had the pleasure of meeting dozens of families - many curious about our chess classes and tournaments, and others simply enjoying a friendly game with friends, family, or members of the Caissa team.
Last Saturday (April 11), we were honored to be invited to host a booth at the OWIS Spring Carnival, an annual event organized by One World International School. While we weren’t quite sure what to expect, the day exceeded all expectations. With a wide variety of food stalls, workshops, performances, and activities, the entire campus was filled with energy and excitement from start to finish. The atmosphere truly felt like a vibrant Japanese festival, offering something for everyone—especially children. Blessed with beautiful sunshine throughout the day and supported by the warm and attentive OWIS staff, it was an outstanding experience for both visitors and exhibitors alike.
What stood out in particular was the level of interest in chess. While the game continues to grow in popularity across Japan, it is still relatively rare to meet so many children who are already familiar with it. At OWIS, many visitors came to our booth with prior knowledge and genuine enthusiasm. Some simply enjoyed casual games, while others sought advice on openings or expressed interest in starting their chess journey. We also had many engaging conversations about our group classes in Hommachi, our online programs, and our structured curriculum based on the Step Method. In addition, we were pleased to introduce our upcoming scholastic tournament at Marist Brothers International School in Kobe. Even members of the OWIS staff joined in for a game from time to time, adding to the lively and welcoming atmosphere.
We are truly grateful to OWIS for the opportunity to be part of such a fantastic event. It was a joy to connect with so many students, parents, and educators, and we sincerely hope to return again next year.
